La beauté, votre honneur, c'est passé de mode

In the winter of 1912-13, Jackson visited Assisi and Venice, which he described in his autobiography as a damp and chilly place in January. A note on the back of this drawing indicates that the artist had intended to paint this scene (his colour notations litter the page), but he never did. Jackson sets his sights on the church and campanile of San Giorgio Maggiore on the island across from the Piazzetta San Marco. A group of gondolas cluster in the water in the foreground.
